ROCCIA is a technical-scientific collaboration initiative between the CMCC Foundation and Roma Capitale, aimed at co-developing research tools to support the Comune di Roma in tackling the challenge of climate change adaptation. In line with the recent Adaptation Strategy (https://www.comune.roma.it/web-resources/cms/documents/Strategia-adattamento-climatico.pdf) approved by the Comune di Roma in January 2025, these tools will transform heterogeneous meteorological and climate data into clear, accessible, and useful information for various stakeholders. The results will provide a solid and reliable foundation for planning future climate adaptation interventions by the Comune di Roma and other involved entities.
27 Months da 13/11/2024 a 13/01/2027
General aims
The overall goal is to initiate the co-development of a platform to support climate change adaptation, enabling the monitoring, analysis, interpretation, and visualization of climate indicators related to key hazards of interest by processing data from various sources (weather stations, CMCC Foundation gridded climate data, and satellite data)
CMCC role
Thanks to its expertise, the CMCC will support Roma Capitale in the co-development of climate adaptation tools by processing meteorological and climate data, defining indicators for urban planning, and developing an interactive platform for information consultation
Activities
- Creation of a climate information database by processing data from weather stations and CMCC Foundation gridded climate data using climate indicators, and interpreting satellite images to extract surface temperature information
- Development of a citizen-oriented platform for visualizing and accessing climate information through Dataclime
- Sharing, promotion, and dissemination of results through the publication of annual reports documenting progress for the years 2024 and 2025
Expected results
- Interactive platform for visualizing and accessing climate information
- Public annual reports on the initiative’s progress
