The IRIDE program is an innovative project undertaken by the Italian government, in collaboration with the European Space Agency (ESA), to leverage resources from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Following the successful implementation of the IRIDE Precursor Phase, the Phase 2 started in October 2024. The main purpose of the project is to deliver an operational portfolio of geospatial services and develop digital tools for End and Pilot users within the Thematic Services S7-Emergency and S8-Security. The operational services allow mapping, monitoring and forecasting of critical events such as earthquakes, floods, extreme weather events, wildfires, volcanic eruptions, landslides, avalanches, mudflows, tsunamis, and other natural or man-made disasters. Additionally, the program includes Maritime Surveillance, focusing on oil spill detection, sea pollution management, and vessel tracking, ensuring comprehensive support for emergency and security needs.

General aims
The main objectives of IRIDE Lot 4 are to design, develop, validate, integrate and deliver all the components of IRIDE Service Segment and to identify (and interface) the external User Operational Systems where outputs of IRIDE Service Value Chains will be integrated and exploited by the end users.
CMCC Role
CMCC contributes to Service Segment S8 Security for Service Value Chain SE-08-03 Oil spills and Sea pollution management. The scope of this SVC is the systematic and on-demand monitoring of an area of interest for detecting oil spill and potential polluter, performing oil spill forecasting and generating oil spill risk index.
Activities
The activities are grouped mainly into following tasks:
Task 1 – Service Portfolio Design
Task 2 – Service Segment Design
Task 3 – Service Segment development and integration
Task 4 – Service Validation and User Uptake
Task 5 – Geospatial Products Generation and Delivery
Task 6 – Benefits Assessment and Service Segment Evolution
Task 7 – Security activities
Task 8 – Management
Expected results
Phase 2 of IRIDE Lot 4 is expected to create a robust IRIDE Marketplace platform with operational service portfolio providing users with advanced digital tools for real-time monitoring, analysis, and decision-making. The users of the IRIDE Lot 4 project include a diverse range of stakeholders involved in disaster management, security, and environmental monitoring among Government Agencies and Civil Protection Authorities, Environmental and Maritime Monitoring Authorities, Local and Regional Governments etc.
