Debashmita is a Postdoctoral Researcher in the RAAS division at CMCC, Venice. She is working in the field of Machine Learning and Deep learning to adapt and mitigate the effects of climate change in coastal regions. She is mainly connected to the BlueGreen Governance (BGG) project funded by EU Horizon. The project develops evidence-based pathways for the design and implementation of innovative governance schemes around the land-sea connection that incorporates both the scientific predictions of future developments (about the biodiversity-water-climate nexus), and societal views on the most viable policy responses.

Debashmita holds a PhD in computer science from the Gran Sasso Science Institute in L’Aquila, Italy. Her thesis was on the topic of Adaptive Influence Maximization problem which is a discrete stochastic optimization problem, NP-hard by nature. She also worked as a Postdoc in Ca’ Foscari University of Venezia, where she was involved in another EU Horizon project called EUMEPLAT: European Media Platforms. The project dealt with misinformation on social media platforms. Debashmita was involved in analysing the misinformation surrounding the topic of migration in different EU countries and analysing social media data to understand the role of trustworthy and untrustworthy news sources in propagating information among the general public.

Debashmita hails from India, where she did her BSc in Computer Science from the University of Calcutta and her MSc in Computer Science from Pondicherry University.

Main Research areas: Stochastic Optimization, Graph Theory, Machine Learning, Networks, Bayesian Probability and Deep learning.
