Juan Martinez is an electronic engineer that holds a masters in the area of electronic instrumentation from Universidad Autónoma de Baja California (UABC), México.  He has worked for several years at the Division of Oceanology of Centro de Investigación Científica y de Educación Superior de Ensenada (CICESE), México, and have acquired a strong experience in the design and integration of oceanographic and meteorological instrumentation.

His research activity is mainly focused in the design and development of new technologies for environmental research purposes. Now he is part of the Advanced Observing System research unit within the Ocean Predictions and Applications (OPA) division.
