Fabienne Horneman is a PhD candidate in Environmental Sciences at the Ca’Foscari University of Venice. Her research activities at the CMCC are part of the Horizon2020 REST-COAST project, focusing on ecosystem restoration. These activities focus primarily on how to evaluate the effectiveness of nature-based solutions within the Venice lagoon in terms of risk reduction through the provisioning and enhancement of regulating ecosystem services.

In 2022, she graduated in Environmental Hazards and Risks Management at the Université Côte d’Azur (Nice, France) after writing her M.Sc. thesis in collaboration with the CMCC@Ca’Foscari. Her thesis focused on the identification of effectiveness indicators, and during this internship at the CMCC she gained insight in different restoration interventions implemented to combat climate change processes, natural and anthropogenic factors influencing the Venice lagoon.

Since August 2022 she has been part of RAAS (Risk Assessment and Adaptation Strategies) Division at CMCC, initially as Affiliated Researcher and now as PhD candidate within REST-COAST project. Her research interests refer to nature-based solution effectiveness, multi-risk assessment and adaptation, with particular interest in the Venice Lagoon.
