Giusy Fedele obtained a Master’s degree in Sciences and Technologies of Navigation at the Parthenope University of Naples (summa cum laude) in 2016. In 2020, she completed a PhD cum laude in Science and Management of Climate Change at the Cà Foscari University of Venice, in collaboration with the Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC, Bologna). During her PhD, she spent five months at the Institut des Géosciences de l’Environnement (IGE) in Grenoble. From March 2020 to February 2021, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (OGS) in Trieste, where she conducted advanced research on oceanographic and geophysical processes.

In March 2021, she joined CMCC’s Climate Simulations and Prediction (CSP) division as a postdoctoral fellow, where her research centered on the analysis of heatwaves over Europe, utilizing the large CESM-DPLE ensemble provided by NCAR. She also played a key role in the development of the CMCC Decadal Prediction System.

Since October 2021, Giusy has been a Junior Scientist at CMCC’s Regional Models and Geo-Hydrological Impacts (REMHI) division in Caserta, where she works on several national and international projects (e.g., IRIDE, SILVANUS, and NEVERMORE). A key focus of her work lies in the development of both dynamical and statistical downscaling techniques, with applications spanning from weather to climate scales. This includes operational weather forecasting for different region of interest and the implementation of bias-adjustment techniques for statistical downscaling using various data sources (e.g., CMIP5, CMIP6, and EURO-CORDEX). Her expertise in downscaling, both dynamic and statistical, is pivotal for improving the accuracy of climate projections and enhancing our understanding of regional climate impacts. She is currently deputy Contact for the CMCC-REMHI division in relation to the Air Force and ESA Environment Taskforce member.
