The webinar “Eutrophication and Acidification in the North Sea: Advancing on SDGs Indicators Monitoring, Reporting and Accounting in the North Sea” is part of a series of interactive events organised by the European Association of Remote Sensing Companies (EARSC) to engage user communities and facilitate the integration of the SDGs EYES project pilot solutions into practical, real-world applications. The session will focus on the pilot area addressing eutrophication and acidification in the North Sea, exploring its potential to support the Sustainable Development Goal 14 (SDG 14 – Life below water).
The SDGs EYES approach leverages Earth Observation data, including the Copernicus program, to improve the monitoring and assessment of eutrophication and acidification in aquatic ecosystems. By integrating data such as nutrient concentrations, water quality indicators, and land use practices, SDGs EYES automates workflows to enable near real-time detection and analysis of these environmental issues. Using Copernicus-based tools, the pilot generates high-resolution maps of SDG 14 indicators for the North Sea, providing critical insights to support policy-making and the sustainable management of vulnerable marine areas, aligning with the EU’s objectives for sustainable water management and the environmental protection goals outlined in the European Green Deal and supporting the post-2030 UN agenda.
