How are cities dealing with disaster response in relation to heat waves?
What engagement strategies do cities put in place to effectively reach and support local communities during extreme heat events?   

Following the first event of the series, titled “Citizenship and Climate Adaptation: Participatory Experiences from Rome to Friuli Venezia Giulia”, a second peer-learning session is scheduled for December 5th 2024, at 10:00 (CET), online.   

This Peer-to-Peer Learning session aims to provide a space for local governments and practitioners from different contexts to share insights, challenges, and solutions on how to best engage and protect different groups affected by heatwaves. With representatives from Malmö and Valencia sharing their experiences, the session will represent an opportunity to discuss practical approaches and inclusive engagement strategies for reaching and supporting local communities during heat waves. 

The event will feature the city of Malmö which, as part of its pilot work within the project Adaptation AGORA, has organised a series of workshops and activities with stakeholders to co-explore adaptation strategies for creating a heat resilient city in which no one is left behind. During the peer-learning session, Malmö will dialogue with representatives from Valencia, one of the Adaptation AGORA Followers. The city, used to hot and dry summers, has been experiencing increasingly frequent and extended extreme heat waves and has started establishing a climate shelters network, among other actions, to alleviate the impact of heatwaves on the population.
