General aims

The training project OTTIMA (PON01_02823 project) focuses on teaching activities, practical exercises and  operative experiences on the knowledge, competences and applications relevant with TESSA research project.

OTTIMA includes two specific objectives which correspond to two training courses:

  • Objective 1 – Course of “Operational oceanography and security”
  • Objective 2 – Course of “Information technologies and security”

At the end of the first objective students will acquire knowledge of the methods, techniques and devices of the operative systems and the fundamental infrastructures for the operational oceanographic and coastal research, the monitoring, the protection and the exploitation of the sea resources and the maritime security.

At the end of the second objective students will deepen knowledge and acquire competences of the information techniques in the field of the data analysis of marine environments, operational oceanography, both from observable systems and models and of the support systems for the decisions of maritime security, maritime environment protection and sustainable exploitation of its resources.

CMCC Role

CMCC is a partner of OTTIMA project.

Expected results

At the moment in Italy there is not the possibility to create professional figures in the field of the operational oceanography, able to use information systems useful for the analysis of the environment condition and marine monitoring and the situational sea awareness.
A remarkable development of the involved industrial sectors (maritime transport, tourism, maritime security, etc.) are expected and therefore the competences developed through these two courses can be identified as the new resources to develop this sector.

Activity

Both courses consist of three modules:

  • Frontal lessons: about 336 hours in order for students to deepen their specialized knowledge.
  • On the job training: 6 months of operative experience in applied research centers.
  • Two final workshop to share information about on the job trainings and for an in-depth analysis of the acquired competences.
