This is a supply of oceanic reanalysis products that will be integrated into the Copernicus marine service. The service will provide at different times and on a monthly basis, physical (ocean and sea ice) and biological (micronekton) model products for the global ocean. The quality of these reanalyses will be analyzed and the relative performances compared in the context of the developing indicators of ocean variability.
36 months from 01/01/2022 to 31/12/2024
General aims
Global physical reanalysis Global Reanalysis Ensemble Product (GREP) member #2
CMCC role
CMCC proposed three different actions: i) the extension of the current CMCC Reanalysis disseminated through Global Reanalysis Ensemble Product (GREP) in the CMEMS catalogue; ii) the production of a new global ocean physical Reanalysis that will cover the altimetry era at least, with improved performances; iii) a comprehensive validation of the current Reanalysis with respect to a long-term one and the issue of recommendations for the production of historical Reanalysis.
Activities
The new Reanalysis will be produced at the horizontal resolution of 1⁄4 degree and with 75 vertical levels, with the ocean-sea ice model coupled to a data assimilation component. The latter consists of a three-dimensional variational system capable of assimilating all ocean satellite data and in-situ measurements. Data will be output in a netcdf format that complies with COARDS standards and disseminated at daily frequency for 3D and 2D variables.
Expected results
Dissemination of a global ocean Reanalysis to be integrated in the CMEMS Global Reanalysis Ensemble Product (GREP).
