General aims

The overall objective of EOSC Beyond is to advance Open Science and innovation in research in the context of the European Open Science Cloud (EOSC) by providing new EOSC Core capabilities allowing scientific applications to find, compose, and access multiple Open Science resources and offer them as integrated capabilities to researchers.

CMCC role
CMCC participates in EOSC Beyond with the contribution to:

  • WP15 – Co-design and initial integration of EOSC Nodes and Data Spaces

The WP aims at collecting requirements of the Data Spaces and EOSC Node, creating service integration plans to pilot co-design activities, identifying support groups to pilot initial co-design activities.
More specifically, CMCC effort will be focused on the requirements gathering, co-design and technical integration activities related to the ENES Data Space, an open and cloud-enabled data science environment for climate data analysis on top of the EOSC Compute Platform implemented in the EGI-ACE project.

  • Work package WP16 – EOSC Nodes, Data Spaces, Testing and Validation

The WP aims at supporting the testing and validation of the EOSC Nodes and Data Spaces.
Specifically, CMCC will be involved in T16.3 ENES, working on the integration of the EOSC core services within the climate scientists’ workflows at the level of the ENES Data Space and its exploitation through the EOSC Core Execution Framework.

Activities
CMCC will be focused on the following:

  1. Supporting co-design and technical integration activities of Data Spaces and EOSC Nodes.
  2. Contributing to the EOSC Nodes and Data Spaces towards integration with the EOSC core services, the EOSC Integration Suite, and the EOSC Execution Framework.
  3. Helping in integrating the EOSC core services within the climate scientists’ workflows at the level of the ENES Data Space.
  4. Exposing the Data Space applications/services through the EOSC Core Execution Framework,
  5. Synchronising the ENES data catalogue with the main EOSC Catalogue.

Expected results

  1. Enhanced design of the EOSC Core functionalities, including resource registry and catalogues, data and service management system, publishing workflow, persistent identifiers, AAI federation, order management, configuration management, monitoring, accounting, and helpdesk.
  2. Enhanced design of the EOSC Core functionalities, considering the need of the data-driven scientific use cases and multi-disciplinary research projects.
  3. Advanced integration and composability of data sources, software tools, research outcomes and other assets within the EOSC Execution Framework.
  4. Sustainable service incubation and technology testbed infrastructure for developing and testing the next generation of the EOSC Core functionalities.
  5. The next generation of EOSC Core infrastructure services are expected to leverage the functionalities of the Smart Middleware Platform (SMP) developed through the Digital Europe Programme (DEP) for common data spaces.
