The CLIMATEFIT project aims to support EU territories in their just and transformational journey toward climate resilience by bridging the finance gap, providing critical insight and building the capacities of (i) Public Authorities (PAs) to identify, orchestrate and attract various public and private financing sources and (ii) Financing & Investment Entities (FIEs) to identify and access resilient investment opportunities. CLIMATEFIT opens a significant opportunity to foster innovative resilience investments in vulnerable EU territories and to boost competitiveness and EU leadership in a growing market.

CMCC role
Leader of WP2 “Build capacities, project pipeline and resilient investment strategies”. CMCC is also involved in WP1 “Stocktake, understand and capitalize”, WP3 “Build roadmaps for reaching investment plans”, WP4 “Pilot solutions on 4 leader territories” and WP6 “Communication and dissemination”.

Activities
CMCC is responsible of and involved in the following activities:

• Contribution to the analysis of the current Financing Landscape, including barriers and drivers for funding and financing of climate resilience, from the financing and investment entities and from the territories’ perspective.
• Overall coordination and oversight of WP2 “Build capacities, project pipeline and resilient investment strategies” activities.
• Active contribution to the development and organization of training activities both for Public Authorities and Financing & Investment Entities on funding opportunities and investments for climate resilience.
• Develop, tailor and apply a methodology to define investment strategies and pipelines of resilient projects in the 20 strategist territories.
• Contribute to develop an investment planning methodology to deliver 10 credible, scalable and bankable investment plans.
• Test the results of WP2 and WP3 in 4 territories with at least one lead FIE for each solution identified.

Expected results

• Development of climate resilience investment strategies for a mix of 20 territories in Southern, Eastern and Northwestern Europe;
• Development of climate resilience investment plans for a mix of 10 territories in Southern, Eastern and Northwestern Europe;
• Increased capacities of Public Authorities (PAs) to attract and orchestrate various public and private funding & financing sources for climate change adaptation;
• Increased capacities of Financing and Investment Entities (FIEs) to discover and access resilient investment opportunities.
• Set up of Local Resilience Taskforces (LRTs) composed of PAs and FIEs that propose a catalytic and systemic approach to resilience financing.
