India-Italy Workshop
11-12 February 2025 | Pune, India

The India-Italy Workshop on “Machine Learning Applications in Climate and Ocean Science,” jointly organized by The Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM), Pune, the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES), India, and CMCC, will foster collaboration between Italian and Indian researchers in the fields of climate science and frontier technologies. Through several tLandgeal sessions, the two-day event will promote knowledge exchange in strategic research regarding the future of Earth’s climate and oceans. The two countries have significant roles in facing future climate challenges: Italy with its strong history in climate modeling and Mediterranean ocean studies, and India, with its climatic diversity and latest advancements in monsoon prediction and the study of ocean dynamics.

The workshop aims to improve scientific capabilities and provide a future outlook on climate modeling to understand altered ocean dynamics and prevent future impacts. Prominent speakers, including CMCC’s President Antonio Navarra and IITM’s Director Raghavan Krishnan, will provide insights on how machine learning applications can contribute to climate change adaptation and mitigation. Through strengthened collaboration, the partners involved will improve model interoperability, enhance data sharing and foster dialogue on ethical considerations regarding AI applications.

The workshop will be held on 11-12 February, 2025.
