World Oceans Day 2019: Gender and the Ocean

Posted on

A healthy world ocean is critical to our survival. Every year, World Oceans Day provides a unique opportunity to honor, help protect, and conserve our world’s shared ocean. The ocean is important because it generates most of the oxygen we breathe, it helps feed us, it regulates our climate, it cleans the water we drink, it offers a pharmacopoeia of medicines and much more.

This year’s theme of the World Oceans Day 2019 is an opportunity to explore the gender dimension of humankind’s relationship with the ocean.

Watch the videos realized in the framework of the event Oceani di plastica and find out more about the importance of ocean literacy, the United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development (2021-2030), the role of women in ocean sciences and the oceanographic research developed at the CMCC Foundation. All the videos (in English and in Italian) are available here.
