The University of Bologna launched the first edition of the PhD in “Future Earth, Climate Change and Societal Challenge” and the call for applications is now open!
The PhD program is organized around 4 themes in the fields of (a) The Earth system; (b) Impacts, adaptation and vulnerability; (c) Technological innovations for a decarbonized society and (d) Socio-economic and legal studies for mitigation of climate change. The students will be expected to choose one of these themes as their Main Theme at application time, and interdisciplinary work will be insured by cross-disciplinary courses taken during the first year.
The programme, taught in English, lasts for three years.
The PhD candidate will have to stay abroad at least for 3 months at a laboratory decided in agreement with the supervisor. The PhD candidate will have to follow each year at least 10 seminars on the Main theme of his/her research.
The CMCC Foundation will fund three PhD positions, and in particular the following scholarship (see the PhD Programme Table for further details):
- A PhD scholarship linked to research on “Advanced coastal modeling and data assimilation” (the applicant awarded this scholarship is expected to carry out part of his/her activity at the CMCC headquarters in Lecce);
- A PhD scholarship linked to research on “Coupled atmosphere-ocean model forecasts in the Mediterranean area”;
- A PhD scholarship linked to research on “Raising operational efficiency of shipping via meteo-oceanographic information”.
