Open call for PhD in Future Earth, Climate Change and Societal Challenges in Bologna

Earth sciences, climate change, the global coastal ocean, data-driven forecasting, risk prediction and mitigation. The CMCC Foundation is contributing with nine PhD scholarship opportunities to the PhD program in “Future Earth, Climate Change and Societal Challenges” at the University of Bologna. Deadline for applications is June 17, 2024.

In partnership with the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna, the CMCC Foundation is funding 9 PhD scholarships as part of the 40th cycle of the PhD program in “Future Earth, Climate Change and Societal Challenges”.

Positions are available on the following research topics:

  • Generative AIPowered Collaborative Coastal Monitoring
  • Data-driven coastal natural disaster prediction and mitigation
  • Communities and citizen science for global coastal ocean monitoring
  • Innovative approaches for a sustainable and just water governance
  • Enabling transition and transformation in coastal areas
  • High-resolution ensemble ocean forecasting and data assimilation at coastal scale
  • Integrate groundwaters and marine waters in a seamless modelling of a catchment-sea continuum
  • Improving seasonal forecast of extreme precipitation
  • Improving regional ocean short-term forecasting: optimizations and innovations

The program is trans-disciplinary, sponsoring convergence between science, engineering, cultural and socio-economic disciplines.
