CMCC is proud to be an Official Nominator for The Earthshot Prize 2025, “the most exciting global environmental platform and prize for impact”. This ambitious initiative seeks to discover, celebrate, and scale groundbreaking solutions that can help repair our planet.
As an Official Nominator, CMCC joins a network of leading organizations worldwide committed to addressing significant planetary challenges, selected for their ability to identify the most impactful solutions across all sectors.
The goal of the Prize is to identify the most transformative solutions across all sectors—from grassroots initiatives to large-scale businesses—that are making real progress towards achieving five critical Earthshots.
These Earthshots focus on protecting and restoring nature, cleaning our air, reviving our oceans, building a waste-free world, and fixing our climate. Together, they aim to improve life for everyone and create a sustainable future for generations to come.
About the Earthshot Prize
Launched by Prince William and initially developed within The Royal Foundation in 2020, The Earthshot Prize is a prominent global environmental initiative that identifies and scales transformative solutions to repair the planet. Inspired by President Kennedy’s Moonshot challenge, The Earthshot Prize embraces ambitious, targeted goals to combat climate change and environmental degradation.
These goals, or “Earthshots,” aim to drive progress by 2030 in five crucial areas:
- Protect and restore nature
- Clean our air
- Revive our oceans
- Build a waste-free world
- Fix our climate
How the Earthshot Prize works
The Earthshot Prize follows a strategic, multi-step process to discover and support groundbreaking environmental innovations. It begins with a global search, supported by Official Nominators, to identify promising solutions that are already making a positive impact. These are then rigorously reviewed, narrowing down to 15 Finalists. The Prize Council, composed of global leaders and experts, selects five winners annually. Each winner receives £1 million to scale their solution. All finalists also enter a year-long Earthshot Fellowship, providing tailored mentorship and access to a wide network of partners to accelerate their impact.
Awarding excellence in environmental solutions
The Earthshot Prize celebrates its winners at a high-profile annual ceremony, which in 2024 took place in Cape Town, South Africa. The five winners—spanning categories like climate innovation and ocean conservation—are recognized for their impactful and scalable environmental solutions. In addition to financial support, finalists benefit from mentorship and networking opportunities through the Earthshot Global Alliance. This powerful ecosystem connects innovators with businesses, investors, and environmental organizations, all working together to advance tangible, scalable change for a more sustainable future.
The 2024 Earthshot Prize Winners showcased remarkable, diverse innovations tackling global environmental challenges. Advanced Thermovoltaic Systems from the USA developed groundbreaking technology to convert industrial waste heat into clean electricity, offering a scalable solution to curb emissions in heavy industries.
The High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People, a global alliance, made strides in biodiversity conservation by securing commitments from 119 countries to protect 30% of land and oceans by 2030. In Kenya, Keep IT Cool provided solar-powered refrigeration to small farmers and fishers, reducing food spoilage and promoting climate resilience. Kazakhstan’s Altyn Dala Conservation Initiative successfully restored the critically endangered Saiga antelope population and revitalized the Central Asian steppe ecosystem.
Lastly, Green Africa Youth Organization (GAYO) in Ghana implemented a “Zero Waste Model” to transform waste management practices, significantly reducing pollution while generating economic benefits for local communities. These projects exemplify scalable, evidence-based approaches to environmental stewardship, underscoring the transformative potential of targeted, innovative action.
