On 17 and 18 January 2023 in Bologna, CMCC will take part in the E3CI Hackathon. Practitioners and students are invited to take part in the event that will find original and effective solutions for communicating extreme weather events to local communities. A dialogue between science, communication, data visualisation to confront each other and generate ideas through the innovative European Extreme Events Climate Index.

The E3CI hackathon will take place in Bologna (Torre Unipol) on January 17-18, 2023. The initiative is promoted by IFAB, the International Foundation Big Data and Artificial Intelligence for Human Development, with the participation of the CMCC Foundation. The event is created to develop original and efficient ideas for sharing the European Extreme Events Climate Index, the European index that tracks the occurrence and gravity of extreme weather events.

The main goals of the event are to increase awareness of local communities about impacts of weather-induced events, to ease the development of applications in the area of Corporate Sustainability, and to support decision makers and local administrations in evaluating difficulties and in defining the most efficient adaptation strategies.

This first edition of the E3CI Hackathon speaks to students and professionals with specific competences in: (i) data visualization, (ii) environmental communication and (iii) analysis of climate data and/or related impacts. Candidates can apply as an individual or as part of a team. Participants will have the trip refunded up to a maximum amount of €200 VAT included. Accommodation is included.

The event will be totally held in Italian language.

The call for proposals is open until December 15, 2022.
