Starting from 2018, the CMCC Foundation joins the Coalition Theory Network (CTN), a network of research centres and university departments founded in 1995 whose research is leading to new ways of exploring coalition and network theory and its applications.
Research on coalition formation is one of the activities lead by CMCC Foundation within its ECIP – Economic analysis of Climate Impacts and Policy research Division. This climate policy research area investigates alternative options for future international climate agreements, with the goal of advancing knowledge around coalition and network formation and of applying the results to the process of international climate negotiations. To better understand the mechanisms at work when social dilemmas, such as the provision of global public goods, are present, CMCC is also working on laboratory experiments on collective behaviour. In recent years, CMCC researchers and fellows have published several articles and books on strategic incentives for signing international environmental agreements.
In addition to joining the partnership, CMCC is now running the CTN Permanent Secretariat by managing the Network’s internal and external communications.
The 23rd Coalition Theory Network Workshop will be held in Maastricht, Netherlands, on 5-6 April 2018 and will be mainly devoted to the theoretical and empirical analysis of networks and groups.
