CMCC at COP29: Science supporting climate negotiations in Baku

CMCC is participating in COP29, the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) Conference of the Parties, held this year in Baku, Azerbaijan. CMCC scientists and experts are contributing to the negotiations, providing scientific support on a range of critical topics, and taking part in several events on the international program.

At COP29 in Baku, CMCC scientists are engaged in supporting climate negotiations with scientific insights and research findings, especially within the context of the European Union delegation. CMCC is organizing a series of side events that tackle urgent climate challenges, encouraging dialogue and exploring innovative solutions that can help propel climate action in a variety of different fields.

CMCC researchers have been invited as keynote speakers at numerous events hosted by international institutions, underscoring the center’s significant role as a point of reference on climate science and policy.

CMCC’s team at COP29 includes Matteo Bellotta, Elisa Calliari, Maria Vincenza Chiriacò, Marta Ellena, Caterina Guidi, and Anna Pirani, who will support the Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security (MASE) delegation in EU-centered negotiations. Jaroslav Mysiak will represent CMCC in lieu of Scientific Director Giulio Boccaletti, while Shouro Dasgupta will serve as a delegate for Burkina Faso.

CMCC’s hands-on involvement at COP29 underscores its dedication to climate science and actionable policy solutions, emphasizing the importance of evidence-based research in tackling global climate challenges.

Food and health systems policies in a climate insecure world
Burkina Faso Pavilion COP29 | live streamed

To present new evidence on the impacts of climate change on health, food security, and nutrition that can be attributed to climate change, focusing on Burkina Faso and West Africa.
