CMCC research on climate change risks for the agricultural and livestock sectors has been selected to be presented at the official press conferences of the European Geosciences Union General Assembly 2023 taking place next week. Journalists, freelance science writers, science bloggers, and public information officers can still register to join the press conferences.
The EGU – European Geosciences Union General Assembly is taking place in Vienna and online from April 23 to 28, 2023. Thousands of scientists from all over the world are taking part in the largest and most prominent European geosciences event, which features a variety of scientific sessions by and with CMCC researchers.
The most exciting and interesting science to share with journalists have been selected from 17,000 other abstract submissions to be presented at the press conferences organized by the EGU General Assembly Press Centre, taking place on April 24, 25, 26 and 27. All press conferences are open to registered on-site and virtual attendees.
CMCC Researchers Valentina Mereu and Paola Nassisi are among those invited to present their research at EGU press conferences.
On Tuesday, 25 April, at 11:30, at the press conference on “Early warning for extreme events: earthquakes, droughts, floods and livestock disease”, Paola Nassisi will present the project SEBASTIEN (Smarter livEstock Breeding through Advanced Services Tailoring Innovative and multi-sourcE data to users’ Needs), of which she is scientific leader. The project wishes to implement large-scale ICT-based services to support smart livestock farming and management, while reducing risks and taking opportunities posed by climate change and its variability, as well as by other concurrent environmental stressors and anthropogenic pressures.
On Wednesday, 26 April, 14:00, at the press conference on “What can chocolate, cereal and water say about food security and sustainability?” Valentina Mereu will show her study on climate risk assessment for cereal and livestock sectors in Mediterranean areas. The study aims to support the decision making process at different administrative levels in designing climate change adaptation by identifying the areas with greatest impact and the most critical aspects for which to focus adaptation efforts.
Journalists, freelance science writers, science bloggers, and public information officers willing to attend the EGU press conferences, can register here.
