Marta Debolini is senior scientist at the Institute for Climate Resilience (ICR) – IAFES Division of the CMCC, working mainly on agricultural and farming systems dynamics, land use change modeling, ecosystem services from agro-ecosystems, and adaptation of farming systems to climate change, in particular related to the use of water resources. She defended her thesis at the Institute of Life Sciences – Sant’Anna School of Advanced Studies (Pisa, Italy) in December 2010 with a thesis on “Agricultural dynamics and soil conservation in Mediterranean rural landscapes”. After her PhD, she continued to work at the Institute of Life Sciences as a post-doc and in 2011 she received the 2011-2012 research award conferred by the Global Fund for Environment and Conflict Resolution for the project “Land management and land use conflict resolution in peri-urban areas: a geo-agronomic perspective” at Columbia University (NY). She developed this post-doc project in Morocco working on land use conflicts in the rural-urban fringe of Meknes. From 2012 to 2022, she is a permanent researcher at INRAE – UMR EMMAH (Avignon), where she co-leads the DREAM team “Land dynamics, functioning of agricultural lands and modelling”, aiming at analyzing the impacts of global changes on water resources and agricultural production at the territorial scale. She is member of the MEDECC – Mediterranean Experts on Climate and Environmental Changes, where she co-leaded the chapter on adaptation and mitigation solutions for the special report on the Nexus WEFE.
