Wildfire risk management (WFRM) is characterised by complex interdependencies between vegetation conditions, climate, human behavior and socioeconomic development and inequalities. In addition, different institutions and organisations involved on WFRM may have diverging interests, needs, policies and practices, with responsibilities not always aligned with the necessary resources. Thus, WFRM can be subject to conflicts between different ends in which different stakeholders with different interests and goals clash.
FIRELOGUE coordinates and supports the Innovation Actions funded under H2020 calls by integrating their findings across stakeholder and fire management phases to deconstruct conflicting interests and real or perceived injustices, providing a space for deliberating in a just and inclusive way, to co-develop integrated strategies to overcome these conflicts.

General objectives
The overarching objective of the project is to create a network and a platform for the discussion on the future of European WFRM, engaging the entirety of the WFRM community. Focusing on supporting the Innovation Actions funded under H2020 call, FIRELOGUE integrates actors and findings into cross-sectoral WFRM recommendations for a 2030 roadmap.
CMCC role
CMCC is partner of the project and the leader of the Thematic Strand on Climate Change Mitigation and Adaptation, participating in 5 out of 7 WPs.
Activities
Reports of Innovation Actions case studies, WFRM state of the art, actors, cross-sectoral and multi-stakeholder measures, recommendations and technologies to collect knowledge and translate it into the Working Groups and Thematic Strands structure (consolidation and dissemination of WFRM Knowledge).
Development of exchange formats, e.g., Technological Market Place in the FIRELOGUE platform, to link formal and informal WFRM networks (not only IAs and FIRELOGUE working groups but also the wider WRFM community) under the just transition concept.
Harmonization of impact assessment methodologies to develop an action plan towards 2030 acting as a catalyst towards a more efficient and coordinated mitigation of extreme wildfire impacts.
Expected results
FIRELOGUE expects to facilitate discussion and exchange between institutions and organisations involved on WFRM to co-develop integrated strategies aiming to reduce fatalities, fire accidental ignitions and fire emissions. FIRELOGUE activities are also expected to impact on reducing the time for controlling potential harmful and extreme fires, increasing fire resilience in Nature 2000 protected areas, increasing the use of prescribed fire treatments at EU level, reducing building losses and increasing insurance coverage in rural activities and assets.
