Bari, 24th September 2020 – Bioengineering interventions, including beach nourishment, restoration of dune lines and dredging of the fishing port, to mitigate the effects of erosion and preserve the landscape of one of the most appreciated and naturalistically relevant stretches of the Apulian coast.
This is the experience carried out in Ugento, identified as a pilot case in the framework of the Triton project, which will be presented on Monday 28th September (10.00 – 12.00) in the online event “Coastal planning and the pilot case of Ugento” (DOWNLOAD THE PROGRAMME) organized by Apulia Region and ARTI. The initiative aims at illustrating the main issues of coastal planning in the Apulia Region, with a particular focus on the actions implemented by the Municipality of Ugento studied in the framework of Triton project and selected among those proposed by the Apulian coastal municipalities.
The online event will be moderated by Nicolò Carnimeo (University of Bari) and introduced by Giuseppe Pastore, director of the Internationalization Section of the Apulia Region, who will illustrate the activities of the Triton project. Coastal planning and sustainability in the Apulia Region will be analysed by Giuseppe Roberto Tomasicchio, University of Salento, and Michele Chieco, Study and Support Section for Legislation and Guarantee Policies of the Apulian Regional Council. The actions carried out to mitigate the effects of erosion will be presented by the mayor of Ugento, Massimo Lecci, through the head of the Ugento Municipality technical office, Luca Casciaro and Simona Bramato, University of Salento and Municipality of Specchia. Elisa Furlan, CMCC Foundation – Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change will describe the analysis carried out in the framework of Triton project on the pilot case of Ugento, highlighting coastal evolution trends over time, using remote sensing techniques and multi-scenario analysis, through the development and application of a probabilistic model based on the latest machine learning methodologies.
