The WASSERMed Final Conference will take place at FEEM in Milan, on 21 – 22 February 2013. WASSERMed Consortium Partners, Stakeholders and EU representatives will take part in the event.
The first day of the conference will be dedicated to Case Studies presentations, while during the second day there will be presentations of the WASSERMed project results and a session of stakeholders’ roundtable.  Presentations will include water security issues as well as adaptation options at case study level and at Mediterranean basin level.

About the project
WASSERMed (Water Availability and Security in Southern EuRope and the Mediterranean) is a project within the EU Seventh Framework Programme FP7. Overall, the project aims at analysing ongoing and future climate induced changes in hydrological budgets and extremes in southern Europe, North Africa and the Middle East under the frame of threats to national and  human security. WASSERMed addresses climate change scenarios, holistic water system modelling and interdisciplinary impact assessment with the integration of three main contributions:

•  Integration of climate change scenarios, holistic water system modelling: This provides results for reduction of uncertainties of climate change impacts on hydrology in the identified regions;
• Interdisciplinary approach, coupling macroeconomic implications and technical indicators: This provides a better assessment of climate effects to water resources, water uses and expected security risks;
• Proposals of specific adaptation measures for key sectors of the Mediterranean economy: This provides a better basis for achieving water security.

WASSERMed considers five case studies: 1) Syros Island (Greece); 2) Sardinia Island (Italy); 3) Merguellil watershed (Tunisia); 4) Jordan river basin 5) the Nile River system (Egypt).
In addition WASSERMed considers impacts on key strategic sectors, such as agriculture and tourism as well as macroeconomic implications of water availability in terms of regional income, consumption, investment, trade flows, industrial structure and competitiveness.

CMCC is the coordinator of the project.
